The KENNAMETAL 1542082 is a straight-flute hand tap designed for cutting 10-32 UNF internal threads in production and maintenance applications. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this tap delivers consistent thread quality in cast iron and non-ferrous metals. It carries a plug chamfer with 3 to 5 lead threads, which helps align the tap at the start of a hole while leaving sufficient room for through-hole and deep blind-hole work. The right-hand, 2-flute design keeps chip evacuation manageable in the materials this tap is rated for. Overall length is 2.38 inches with a thread length of 0.875 inches, making it well-suited for hand-tapping operations where controlled torque application is critical.
This tap is used in machine shops, maintenance facilities, and field service environments wherever 10-32 UNF threads are required. Typical applications include tapping cast iron housings, aluminum enclosures, and non-ferrous fixtures. The plug chamfer makes it the standard choice when starting a new thread in a drilled hole, as opposed to a bottoming tap used to finish threads close to a blind-hole floor. It is sold individually and fits standard tap handles and T-wrenches sized for the 0.194-inch shank diameter.
Designed as an OEM-style hand tap for any application requiring a 10-32 UNF Class 2B internal thread in cast iron or non-ferrous metal; fits standard tap handles and holders accepting a 0.194-inch shank diameter.
Hand taps should be installed and driven using a properly sized tap wrench or T-handle; do not use power tools unless the tap is rated for machine use. Secure the workpiece before tapping and apply an appropriate cutting fluid to extend tool life and improve thread finish. Back the tap off a quarter turn periodically to break chips and prevent tap breakage. Always drill the correct tap-drill diameter before threading to maintain the specified Class 2B fit.
