The KENNAMETAL 1528427 is a DFT-series indexable insert drill designed for general-purpose drilling operations in metal cutting and machining environments. The body accepts two DFT-style inserts and delivers a maximum drill diameter of 3.26 inches (82.8 mm) with a maximum drill depth of 8.13 inches (206.5 mm), placing it in the 2.5xD depth-to-diameter class. The 2-inch Weldon Flat and Flange straight shank provides positive drive and consistent runout in compatible toolholders. Coolant-through capability via axial concentric entry supports chip evacuation and insert life at elevated feed rates. The steel body construction is suited for production drilling in machining centers and lathes with live tooling.
This drill is intended for use in CNC machining centers and horizontal boring mills where large-diameter, moderate-depth holes are required. The 2.5xD ratio makes it well suited for through-holes and blind holes in structural steel, cast iron, and general engineering alloys. The right-hand cutting direction and coolant-through design support consistent performance in high-volume production runs as well as job-shop applications where insert changeability and repeatability are priorities. Licensed machinists and toolroom technicians are the typical end users.
Compatible with DFT-series indexable inserts, specifically insert style DFT1105. (size code 1105.., decimal inch size 0.458 x 0.194 inches). Insert lock screw specification is M5.5-0.9 x 9.5 T20. Designed for use in toolholders accepting a 2-inch straight shank with Weldon Flat and Flange interface.
Installation and setup should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and the machine locked out per applicable safety procedures. Verify that the toolholder bore matches the 2-inch Weldon Flat and Flange shank geometry before mounting. Confirm coolant supply pressure and port connections at both the shank end and body side before initiating a cut. Inspect and torque insert lock screws to the tool manufacturer specification using a T20 Torx driver; do not overtighten or substitute fasteners.
