The KENNAMETAL 1528398 is a DFT-series indexable insert drill designed for through-coolant drilling operations in metal-cutting applications. The body is machined from steel and accepts two DFT06T3 insert-style cutting inserts, providing a maximum drill diameter of 1.625 inches (41.28 mm) and a maximum drill depth of 3.75 inches. The 1.5-inch straight shank features a Weldon flat and flange for secure toolholder engagement. Coolant is delivered through an axial concentric entry, with a body-side coolant hole thread of 1/8-27 inches and a shank-end coolant hole thread of 1/4-18 inches. This drill is suited for general-purpose drilling in production machining environments and is installed by machinists and tooling specialists.
The 1528398 is intended for use in CNC machining centers and milling machines equipped with compatible toolholders that accept a 1.5-inch Weldon flat shank. With a drill depth-to-diameter ratio of 2.5xD, this tool is sized for moderate-depth hole applications in steel, cast iron, and similar workpiece materials. Insert changes are performed with an M3.5-0.6 x 8.3 T15 Torx insert lock screw, enabling quick indexing without removing the body from the spindle. Cutting direction is right-hand only.
Compatible with DFT drill style inserts, insert style code DFT06T3, and insert size code 06T3. Designed for use in toolholders accepting a 1.5-inch Weldon flat and flange straight shank. Coolant connections require 1/8-27 inches body-side and 1/4-18 inches shank-end fittings.
Installation and insert indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine spindle fully stopped and the control in a locked-out state per applicable safety procedures. Verify toolholder compatibility with the 1.5-inch Weldon flat shank before mounting. Ensure coolant supply connections match the specified thread sizes at both entry points before engaging the coolant circuit. Do not exceed the maximum drill depth of 3.75 inches or the maximum drill diameter of 1.625 inches as specified for this body.
