The KENNAMETAL 1528345 is a 2.5xD indexable insert drill designed for general-purpose drilling operations in metalworking and machining environments. It accommodates two DFT-style inserts and delivers a maximum drill depth of 76.2mm (3 inches) with an overall length of 7.75 inches. The body is constructed from steel and features a straight Weldon flat and flange shank with a 1.25-inch shank diameter. Coolant-through capability is standard, with axial concentric entry at the coolant inlet, supporting chip evacuation and tool life in continuous drilling cycles. This tool is intended for use by machinists and tool-and-die professionals in production or job-shop settings.
The 1528345 is suited for general-purpose drilling in a range of workpiece materials where indexable insert tooling offers a cost-effective alternative to brazed-tip or solid carbide drills. The 2.5xD depth-to-diameter ratio makes it appropriate for through-hole and blind-hole applications within standard machining center spindles. Compatible insert size code is DFT05T3, and the drill body accepts DFT-style inserts with an insert size of 5.29mm x 3.75mm. The insert is secured with an M3-0.5 x 7.2 T9 lock screw.
Designed for use with DFT-series indexable drill inserts, insert size code DFT05T3, with an insert size of 5.29mm x 3.75mm. Maximum drill diameter capacity is 32.70mm (1.287 inches). Compatible drill style is DFT as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by qualified machinists with the machine spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out, de-energized state per applicable machine safety procedures. Verify that shank-to-spindle interface is clean and free of chips before seating the Weldon flat shank. Insert installation requires a T9 torx driver for the M3-0.5 lock screw; do not overtighten. Confirm coolant line connections at the appropriate threaded ports before resuming operations.
