The KENNAMETAL 1527992 is a DCMT-style cermet turning insert designed for precision finishing operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. Manufactured under the KT315 grade, this insert features a multilayer PVD coating of TiN, TiCN, and TiN that delivers high wear resistance across all three primary workpiece material categories. The 55-degree diamond (rhombic) insert geometry provides a positive rake angle with a 7-degree relief angle and a honed cutting edge, promoting clean chip formation and extended tool life during light to moderate depth-of-cut finishing passes. With 2 cutting edges per insert, it offers efficient cost-per-edge value for high-volume turning applications.
This insert is suited for CNC turning centers and manual lathes performing turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations. It is particularly effective in finishing applications where surface finish quality and dimensional accuracy are priorities. The DCMT325211 industry standard number and screw-on holding method make it compatible with a wide range of standard DCMT-style toolholders in both ANSI and ISO configurations. Typical end users include CNC machinists and tool-and-die professionals working with steel alloys, austenitic stainless grades, and gray or ductile cast iron.
Designed for use in standard ANSI and ISO DCMT screw-on toolholders. ANSI insert code DCMT3252; ISO insert code DCMT11T308. Conforms to ANSI and ISO dimensional standards for DCMT-style inserts.
Installation should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the clamping screw — do not overtighten. Verify insert seating and tool offset compensation before resuming cutting operations.
