The KENNAMETAL 1527732 is a DFT-series indexable insert drill designed for general-purpose drilling operations in metal-cutting applications. It accepts two DFT0303 indexable inserts and delivers a maximum drill depth of 2.35 inches at a 2.5xD depth-to-diameter ratio. The body is constructed from steel, with a 1-inch Weldon Flat and Flange straight shank measuring 1.0000 inch in diameter. Coolant-through capability is built in, with axial concentric entry at the cutting end and threaded ports at both the body side and shank end for pressurized coolant delivery. This tool is installed and operated by machinists and tool-and-die tradespeople on CNC machining centers and manual mills.
The 1527732 is suited for production drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where indexable insert tooling is preferred over solid carbide or brazed-tip drills. The 23.8 mm nominal diameter, combined with a 6.75-inch overall length and a 3.75-inch body length, positions this drill for bore depths common in fixture plates, structural components, and mold bases. Right-hand cutting direction is standard. The DFT series is a general-purpose platform appropriate for both roughing and finish-diameter hole production when paired with the correct insert grade.
Compatible with DFT drill style toolholders and DFT0303 indexable insert style. Insert lock screw specification is M2.5-0.45x5.9 T8 drive. Designed for use in machining setups requiring a 1-inch straight shank interface with Weldon Flat and Flange retention.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by qualified machinists with the spindle fully stopped and machine power locked out per applicable shop safety procedures. Confirm shank seating and Weldon Flat set screw torque per the machine tool manufacturer guidelines before running. Coolant line connections at both the body side and shank end ports should be inspected for proper thread engagement before pressurizing the coolant system. Insert indexing or replacement requires a T8 Torx driver for the M2.5 lock screw.
