The KENNAMETAL 1527628 is an indexable insert drill designed for general-purpose drilling operations in metal cutting applications. Built on the DFT series platform, it accepts two DFT0303 style inserts and delivers a maximum drill depth of 1.875 inches at a 2.5xD depth-to-diameter ratio. The drill body is constructed from steel and features a 3/4-inch Weldon flat and flange straight shank for positive rotational drive in standard toolholders. Coolant-through capability is included via axial concentric entry, with 1/8-27 threaded coolant ports at both the shank end and body side. Overall length is 5.25 inches. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers specify this drill for shops running high-volume production drilling where insert indexability reduces downtime.
This drill is suited for production machining environments running CNC mills, machining centers, and drill presses equipped with coolant-through spindles. The 19.1 mm nominal diameter with a maximum drillable diameter of 21.59 mm provides a useful working range. The right-hand cutting direction and Weldon flat shank make it compatible with standard side-lock toolholders common in horizontal and vertical machining centers. Typical applications include structural components, housings, and plate work where repeated hole patterns demand fast, repeatable insert changes rather than regrinding.
Compatible with DFT insert style, insert size code 0303, and insert lock screw M2.5-0.45x5.9 T8. Designed for use with DFT0303 indexable inserts. Accepts 3/4-inch side-lock Weldon flat toolholders. Insert compatibility code: DFT0303.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully powered down and locked out before mounting or removing the drill body from the toolholder. Confirm insert seating and lock screw torque against the insert manufacturer specifications before running. Verify coolant-through connections are clear and coolant pressure is within machine specifications before initiating a cut.
