The KENNAMETAL 1527597 is a 2.5xD indexable insert drill designed for general-purpose drilling in metal cutting and machining applications. Built on the DFT series platform, it accepts two DFT-style inserts and delivers a maximum drill depth of 1.6 inches at a nominal diameter of 15.9mm (0.626 inches), with a maximum drill diameter capacity of 19.81mm (0.7750 inches). The body is constructed from steel and features a 3/4-inch Weldon Flat and Flange shank for secure tool holding. Coolant-through capability is provided via axial concentric entry, supporting effective chip evacuation and thermal management at the cutting zone. This drill is intended for installation and use by machinists and tooling professionals in CNC and manual machining environments.
The 1527597 is suited for general-purpose drilling operations in production and job-shop settings where indexable tooling is preferred over brazed or solid carbide drills. The 2.5xD depth-to-diameter ratio makes it appropriate for through-holes and moderate-depth blind holes in a range of workpiece materials. The Weldon Flat and Flange shank interface is compatible with standard DFT-series tool holders. Coolant is delivered through both axial concentric and body side ports, threaded at 1/8-27, supporting high-throughput drilling cycles.
Compatible with DFT-style indexable drill inserts, insert style code DFT0302, and insert size 3.97mm x 2.95mm (0.1560 x 0.0960 inches). Insert lock screw specification is M2-04 x 4.8 T6. Designed for use with tool holders accepting a 3/4-inch Weldon Flat and Flange shank interface within the DFT series.
Installation and insert indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine powered down and locked out per applicable safety procedures. Confirm shank seating and set screw engagement before resuming cutting operations. Coolant ports should be cleared and verified for flow before use; match coolant pressure and flow rate to machine tool specifications. Insert lock screws should be torqued using the correct T6 Torx driver - do not overtighten or substitute fastener types.
