The KENNAMETAL 1522907 is a solid carbide turning insert designated CPGT2151HP in the KC5010 grade. It carries a PVD-applied TiAlN coating that delivers high wear resistance across a range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloys. The insert follows an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle of 15 degrees and an 11-degree relief angle, making it well suited to finishing operations. Cutting edges are honed for a controlled, consistent edge condition. The insert is neutral-hand and mounts via a screw-on holding method, fitting standard CPGT-style toolholders.
This insert is intended for finishing passes in turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Its HP chip breaker geometry is optimized for light-to-moderate depths of cut up to 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches), producing manageable chips at higher surface speeds. It is appropriate for both production shops and job shops working with steel, stainless steel, titanium, and superalloy components where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are priorities. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the typical end users.

Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine in a full stop and all motion axes locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to toolholder specification; do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under excess clamp load. Index or replace the insert when surface finish degrades or tool pressure increases noticeably — do not run a worn edge to failure. Verify insert seating and pocket cleanliness before resuming cuts.
