The KENNAMETAL 1522850 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TPGT32505HP geometry with KC5010 grade, designed for precision finishing operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, which delivers high wear resistance across a range of workpiece materials. It carries a 60-degree triangular shape with a positive rake angle of 15 degrees, a 0.0079-inch corner radius, and an 11-degree relief angle. With three cutting edges and a screw-on holding method, this insert is suited for high-productivity finishing passes where consistent surface finish and edge life are priorities.
This insert is intended for finishing and light-to-moderate duty turning, facing, and boring operations. It is designed for use on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium workpieces. The HP chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing cuts with a maximum depth of cut of 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches). Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in job shops, aerospace, and general metalworking will find this insert suited for tight-tolerance turning applications where surface finish and dimensional control are critical.

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is at a full stop and all axis locks are engaged before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's recommended seating torque. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for debris or wear before seating a new insert to avoid seating errors that can affect surface finish and dimensional accuracy.
