The KENNAMETAL 1522127 is a DFT-series indexable insert drill designed for through-coolant drilling operations in metal cutting applications. It accepts two DFT-style inserts and drills to a maximum depth of 4.25 inches at a 4xD depth-to-diameter ratio. The body diameter measures 1.0626 inches with a maximum drill diameter of 1.188 inches, and the overall length is 9.125 inches. The steel body features a Weldon Flat and Flange shank with a 1.25-inch shank diameter. Axial concentric coolant entry keeps the cutting zone clear during deep-hole operations. This tool is installed and used by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
This drill is suited for general-purpose drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where indexable insert tooling is preferred over solid-carbide drills. The 4xD ratio makes it appropriate for moderate-depth holes in workpieces such as flanges, housings, manifolds, and structural components. The straight shank with Weldon Flat and Flange interface mounts directly into compatible drill chucks or collet holders on machining centers and CNC lathes.
Compatible with DFT-style indexable inserts, insert style code DFT05T3, insert size 0.208 x 0.148 inches (5.29 x 3.75 mm). Insert lock screw specification is M3-0.5x7.2 T9. Designed for use in machine spindles accepting a 1.25-inch straight shank with Weldon Flat and Flange interface.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully powered down and locked out before mounting or removing the drill body. Verify coolant-through connections at the shank end are properly sealed and pressurized to the machine tool specification before commencing drilling. Inspect insert seating and confirm the M3 lock screw is torqued per KENNAMETAL tooling guidelines before each use; never run the tool with a loose or missing insert.
