The KENNAMETAL 1522117 is a DFT-series indexable insert drill designed for general-purpose drilling in metal fabrication, machining, and production environments. Built from steel, it accepts two DFT-style indexable inserts and delivers a maximum drill depth of 5.5 inches (139.7 mm) at a 4xD depth-to-diameter ratio. The drill body measures 7.25 inches in length with an overall tool length of 10.5 inches. A 1.25-inch Weldon flat and flange shank provides secure tool holding in compatible drill chucks and toolholders. Coolant is delivered through an axial concentric entry with a 1/4-18 threaded shank-end coolant port, supporting through-coolant capability for chip evacuation and heat control during drilling operations. This tool is installed and operated by machinists and CNC tooling technicians.
The 1522117 is suited for straight-hole drilling applications in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where consistent bore quality and controlled depth are required. The right-hand cutting direction and two-insert configuration support balanced cutting forces. Compatible insert size code is DFT06T3., with inserts measuring approximately 0.26 x 0.148 inches (6.62 x 3.75 mm). The insert lock screw specification is M3.5-0.6 x 8.3 T15. This tool fits applications within the 5.0 to 7.0 inch (100 to 150 mm) maximum drill depth range bracket for the DFT series.
Designed for use with DFT-series indexable inserts, insert style DFT, size code DFT06T3.. Insert lock screw is M3.5-0.6 x 8.3 T15. Compatible with toolholding systems that accept a 1.25-inch Weldon flat and flange shank.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians with the machine fully powered down and spindle locked before insert or tool body service. Use the correct T15 Torx driver when seating the insert lock screw to the insert pocket. Confirm coolant line connection at the shank-end port before resuming operation. Follow shop safety protocols and machine manufacturer guidelines for tool runout inspection after installation.
