The KENNAMETAL 1519229 is a replaceable-tip drill body engineered for precision hole-making in metal cutting applications. Designed for the KSEM series, this drill body accepts KSEM0656 insert tips at Insert Seat Size 1 and delivers a drill diameter range of 16.67 to 17.17 mm (0.6563 to 0.6760 inches). Maximum drill depth reaches 126 mm (4.96 inches), representing a 7xD depth-to-diameter ratio. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 19.05 mm in diameter and 50.80 mm in length, providing rigid, repeatable positioning in standard toolholders. Through-coolant delivery is supported via a 3.50 mm coolant hole, making it suitable for extended-reach operations where heat and chip evacuation are critical concerns. Machinists and CNC operators working in production environments will find this body well-suited to high-volume drilling cycles.
This drill body is intended for use in CNC machining centers, turning centers with live tooling, and manual mills where a straight-cylindrical shank interface is compatible. The KSEM platform is commonly applied in automotive, aerospace, and general metalworking operations requiring consistent, repeatable hole quality across production runs. The replaceable-tip design reduces tooling cost by allowing worn or damaged insert tips to be swapped without discarding the entire drill body. The 7xD depth capability makes it appropriate for deeper bores where solid carbide drills may not be the most cost-effective option.
Compatible with KSEM0656 series replaceable insert tips at Insert Seat Size 1. Part of the KENNAMETAL KSEM series drill body platform.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Before mounting or tip replacement, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the controller is in a safe state. Clean the shank and toolholder bore thoroughly before clamping to the specified runout tolerances of your toolholder system. When replacing insert tips, follow the torque and seating procedures documented in the KENNAMETAL KSEM tooling manual for this seat size - do not estimate clamping torque without the manufacturer reference.
