The KENNAMETAL 1505400 is a ceramic milling insert carrying ANSI and ISO designation SPHX1205PCTR-GP1WBK and manufactured in the KY3500 micrograin ceramic grade. This uncoated, single-sided insert is square in shape with a positive rake geometry and a T-Land cutting edge style. It is designed for high-speed face milling and shoulder milling operations where ceramic tooling outperforms carbide in terms of surface footage capability. The insert measures 0.4331 inches in length and 0.2170 inches thick, with an inscribed circle of 0.2165 inches. Primary application is cast iron workpiece material, consistent with the K material grade classification. The screw-in holding method provides secure clamping in compatible toolholders.
This insert is intended for use in milling operations on cast iron components in both production shop and maintenance machining environments. It fits the SPHX series Fix-Perfect cutter platform and is suited for right-hand cutting. The GP chip breaker geometry is optimized for controlled chip formation in gray cast iron and similar ferrous materials. Licensed machinists and CNC setup technicians are the primary installers. The 11-degree relief angle supports free-cutting performance at elevated speeds typical of ceramic milling applications.
Designed for use in KENNAMETAL Fix-Perfect cutter bodies compatible with the SPHX insert series. ANSI and ISO code SPHX1205PCTR-GP1WBK. Primary workpiece material is cast iron (K-grade material classification).
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert fully against the pocket walls before torquing the clamping screw to the toolholder specification. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination under the insert will cause premature edge failure. Ceramic inserts are brittle — avoid dropping or impacting the cutting edge against hard surfaces during handling.
