The KENNAMETAL 1328583 is a left-hand A-SCLC indexable boring bar designed for internal turning and precision bore finishing operations on CNC and manual lathes. Built from steel, it features a 3/8-inch shank diameter and a 6-inch overall length, giving it the reach and rigidity needed for tight-tolerance bores. The minimum bore diameter is 0.480 inches (12.19 mm), making it suited for small-diameter internal work. A screw-type insert holding method locks CC-style inserts securely, and the neutral rake angle provides balanced cutting forces across a range of workpiece materials. Through-coolant capability is integrated, directing fluid directly to the cutting zone for improved chip evacuation and tool life.
This boring bar is used in metal cutting environments where left-hand tool rotation or approach direction is required. Typical applications include finish boring on CNC turning centers, manual engine lathes, and turret lathes in job shops, production machining cells, and maintenance shops. The through-coolant feature makes it especially effective when machining deep or blind bores where conventional flood coolant cannot adequately reach the cutting edge. Machinists and CNC operators working with ferrous and non-ferrous materials will find this tool appropriate for achieving consistent bore geometry and surface finish.
Designed to accept CC-style indexable inserts with a 1/4-inch inscribed circle and 3/32-inch thickness. Compatible with standard A-SCLC insert grades and geometries in the CC form factor.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all motion is locked out before changing inserts or mounting the boring bar. The shank must be clamped squarely and to adequate depth in the toolholder or turret pocket to prevent deflection; follow the machine tool manufacturer's minimum clamping length guidelines. When connecting through-coolant supply, verify that the coolant pressure and flow rate are within the machine tool and toolholder specifications before engaging the spindle.
