The KENNAMETAL 1322958 is a ceramic milling insert carrying the manufacturer part designation SPHX1205ZCTRGPK in the KY3500 micrograin ceramic grade. This double-sided, square-shaped insert is designed for high-speed face and shoulder milling operations where thermal and wear resistance are critical. It delivers 8 usable cutting edges per insert, a positive rake geometry with a 30-degree rake angle, and a T-Land cutting edge style. At 0.217 inches thick with an inscribed circle of 0.2165 inches, the insert seats in screw-mounted toolholders within the Fix-Perfect cutter series. The uncoated (bright) finish is standard for ceramic grades targeting cast iron applications.
This insert is engineered primarily for milling cast iron workpieces in production environments where ceramic grades outperform carbide at elevated cutting speeds. It is suited for use on CNC machining centers and dedicated milling machines in both job shop and high-volume manufacturing settings. The GP chip breaker geometry supports consistent chip control across a range of depths of cut up to 0.3961 inches. Right-hand cutting orientation makes it compatible with standard right-hand Fix-Perfect cutter bodies. Machinists, tooling engineers, and CNC operators working with gray iron, ductile iron, and similar ferrous cast materials will find this grade appropriate for finishing and semi-finishing passes.
Designed for use in KENNAMETAL Fix-Perfect cutter series toolholders accepting SPHX1205 insert style with screw-type insert retention. ANSI and ISO code: SPHX1205ZCTRGPK.
Installation is performed by machinists or tooling setup technicians following standard indexable insert procedures. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the cutter body secured before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key driver specified by the cutter body manufacturer to achieve proper clamping torque on the insert screw — do not over-tighten, as ceramic inserts are brittle and susceptible to cracking under excess clamping force. Inspect the insert pocket seat and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
