The KENNAMETAL 1270958 is an indexable boring bar designed for internal turning and boring operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built on the F-Series platform, it features a solid carbide shank for vibration damping and rigidity in deep-bore applications, with a steel head that holds the insert securely via a screw-clamp mechanism. The tool cuts right-hand and accepts TD-style inserts with a 0.160-inch inscribed circle. A 5-degree positive rake angle and 5-degree lead angle promote clean chip formation and reduce cutting forces in tight-bore conditions. Coolant-through capability, with a 0.047-inch coolant hole, delivers cutting fluid directly to the insert tip.
This boring bar is suited for small-diameter internal machining in precision turning applications. The 0.300-inch minimum bore diameter and 2.5-inch maximum bore depth make it appropriate for short to medium-depth bores in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It is a single-use configuration with a 1/4-inch shank diameter and 4.000-inch overall length, fitting standard boring bar holders in that shank size. Machinists and tooling technicians working in production or job-shop environments will find this bar appropriate for finish and semi-finish boring passes requiring consistent dimensional control.
Accepts TD-style inserts with a 0.160-inch inscribed circle and 0.047-inch insert thickness. Designed as an OEM-style indexable boring bar for 1/4-inch shank boring bar holders on CNC turning equipment.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine in a full stop, spindle off, and control in a safe state. Secure the shank in a matching 1/4-inch boring bar holder to the specified clamping torque listed in the machine or toolholder manufacturer documentation. When changing inserts, use the appropriate Torx or hex key as specified for the screw-clamp style and avoid overtightening. Verify insert seating and tool overhang against the maximum bore depth specification before initiating a cut.
