The KENNAMETAL 1270952 is a solid carbide indexable boring bar designed for internal turning and precision bore operations on CNC lathes and machining centers. Built to the E-SCFD toolholder style, it features a right-hand cut orientation with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees, promoting clean chip formation and reduced cutting forces in tight-bore applications. The 1/4-inch shank diameter and 4-inch overall length make this bar suited for small-diameter boring where rigidity and dimensional accuracy are critical. Coolant-through capability via a 0.047-inch coolant hole supports thermal management and chip evacuation at the cutting zone.
This boring bar is intended for precision machining environments where minimum bore diameters down to 0.292 inches (7.42 mm) must be held with consistency. It accepts CD-style inserts secured by screw clamping, making insert changes straightforward at the machine. Typical applications include finish boring of small holes in ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces in production and job-shop settings. The solid carbide body provides stiffness and vibration resistance in deep or interrupted cuts relative to steel-shank alternatives.
Accepts CD-style inserts with a 1/2-inch inscribed circle and 1/4-inch insert thickness, secured via screw clamping. Designed for use in standard 1/4-inch boring bar toolholders on CNC lathes and machining centers configured for small-diameter internal turning.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered off and in a locked-out state before toolholder setup. Confirm shank clamping torque per the machine manufacturer's toolholder specifications and verify overhang length does not exceed recommended limits for the bar diameter. Insert seating surfaces should be clean and free of chips before indexing or replacing CD inserts. Coolant-through connections should be verified for proper sealing and flow before returning the machine to production.
