The KENNAMETAL 1224825 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TPMR432 geometry, part of the KENDEX series. It carries a KC730 grade designation with a PVD-applied TiN coating engineered for high wear resistance with moderate toughness. The triangular insert shape provides three usable cutting edges, and the neutral hand orientation suits a wide range of turning setups. Key geometry includes a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, a 1/32-inch corner radius, a 60-degree included angle, and an 11-degree relief angle. Chip breaker classification is medium machining with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees and a honed cutting edge style. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert on production turning, facing, and boring operations.
This insert is designed for primary use on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpiece materials, corresponding to ISO material groups P, M, and K. The KC730 grade delivers a balance of wear resistance and toughness suited for medium machining conditions on these materials. It is applicable in production environments running CNC lathes and manual turning centers where consistent surface finish and edge life are priorities. The maximum recommended depth of cut is 0.049 inches (1.25 mm). Multi-use capability covers turning, facing, and boring applications in a single insert format.
Designed for use in clamp-style toolholders accepting TPMR-geometry inserts with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle. Conforms to ANSI insert standard TPMR432 and ISO insert standard TPMR220408, allowing use in any compliant ANSI or ISO toolholder system designed for triangular inserts with positive side clearance and P-clearance code.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC operators. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Use the specified clamp hardware for the toolholder; do not overtighten or improvise clamping. Index or replace the insert when visible wear, chipping, or degraded surface finish is observed on the workpiece.
