The KENNAMETAL 1201055 is a straight-flute solid carbide drill bit designed for high-accuracy drilling in cast iron and non-ferrous metals. It measures 5/8 inch (0.6250 inch) in diameter with a 130-degree split point that reduces walking and improves hole entry. The two-flute, web-thinned geometry lowers thrust requirements and supports cleaner chip evacuation. Coolant-through capability via round coolant holes allows internal coolant delivery directly to the cutting zone, extending tool life in production environments. The bright/uncoated finish suits applications where coating interaction with workpiece material is a concern. This bit is installed by machinists and tool-room professionals on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual mills.
The 1201055 targets precision machining operations on cast iron components and non-ferrous metal workpieces such as aluminum, brass, and copper alloys. It fits production drilling scenarios where tight diameter tolerances are required, with a diameter tolerance held to +0.0000 to +0.0005 inch. Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with carbide tooling. Avoid side-loading straight-flute carbide drills, as carbide is brittle and susceptible to chipping under lateral forces.
