The KENNAMETAL 1198162 is a VBMT33111 KT325 cermet turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a 35-degree diamond insert shape with a neutral hand orientation and a positive rake angle of 5 degrees. The inscribed circle measures 0.375 inches, the insert length is approximately 1.308 inches (16.61 mm), and the corner radius is 0.0156 inches (1/64 inch). The cutting edge is honed and uncoated, making this a bright cermet grade suited for finishing and semi-finishing operations. Screw-on holding method secures the insert firmly in compatible toolholders. Qualified machinists and CNC operators install and index this insert during production turning work.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations on steel and cast iron workpieces. Designed as a screw-on style replacement insert for VBMT-style toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, 35-degree diamond insert. Verify toolholder pocket geometry, screw bore diameter (0.1732 inches), and insert thickness (0.1875 inches) before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque; do not overtighten, as cermet inserts are brittle and can fracture under excessive clamping force.
