The KENNAMETAL 1183375 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CPG422 geometry, part of the KENDEX series. It carries a TiN coating applied via PVD process and is designed for external turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, and cast iron. The insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a neutral hand orientation, a flat-top chip breaker, a positive rake angle, and a honed cutting edge style. With a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and a 0.0313-inch corner radius, it suits finish-to-semi-finish cutting passes where controlled wear resistance and edge stability are required. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments are the primary installers.
This insert is suited for turning and facing applications on steel (P-class), stainless steel (M-class), and cast iron (K-class) workpieces, with secondary suitability for superalloys and titanium (S-class). The KC730 grade delivers high wear resistance while maintaining moderate toughness across these material groups, making it a workable choice for both continuous cuts and light interrupted cuts. The flat-top chip breaker geometry supports chip control on shallow-to-medium depth-of-cut passes. Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches). The insert is held by a clamp-style toolholder and is compatible with standard CPG-style insert pockets.
Designed for use in CPG-style clamp toolholders accepting a 422 ANSI size code insert. Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards (ISO insert code CPG120308). Suitable for P, M, K, and S workpiece material classifications per ISO turning grade designations.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Ensure the insert pocket and clamp are clean and free of chips before securing the insert, as debris under the insert seat will affect runout and edge life. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specified for this geometry; oversized cuts can cause edge chipping or premature insert failure.
