The KENNAMETAL 1183323 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TPG542 geometry, part of the KENDEX series. It carries a multilayer CVD coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN under the KC850 grade designation, which provides moderate wear resistance and toughness across a range of workpiece materials. The insert features a triangular shape with a 60-degree included angle, a 5/8-inch inscribed circle, 1/4-inch thickness, and a 1/32-inch corner radius. With three available cutting edges and a flat-top chip breaker, this insert is suited for general turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC and manual lathes. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert as a standard indexable tooling component.
The 1183323 is designed for use in steel and stainless steel applications as primary workpiece materials, with capability in cast iron and special or super alloys as well. The KC850 grade balances wear resistance with toughness, making it a practical choice for moderate cutting conditions across production and job-shop environments. It is identified by ANSI insert code TPG542 and ISO insert code TPG270608, allowing straightforward cross-referencing to toolholder specifications. The flat-top geometry and honed cutting edge support consistent chip control in continuous turning and light-to-moderate facing passes. Maximum depth of cut is 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm).
Designed for use in toolholders accepting TPG542 geometry inserts per ANSI and ISO standards. Verify toolholder pocket specifications against ANSI insert code TPG542 or ISO insert code TPG270608 before installation.
This insert is installed by a machinist or CNC operator using the clamp holding method standard to TPG-style toolholders. Power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamp hardware for wear or debris before seating the insert. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specified for the insert grade and workpiece material combination.
