The KENNAMETAL 1183319 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TPG433 geometry, part of the KENDEX series. It carries a multilayer CVD coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN under the KC850 grade designation, balancing moderate wear resistance with toughness across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert measures 22 millimeters (0.866 inches) in length with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, a 3/64-inch (0.047-inch) corner radius, and a 3/16-inch (0.1875-inch) thickness. It features a flat-top chip breaker, a positive rake angle, a honed cutting edge, and positive side clearance. Three usable cutting edges are available per insert. CNC machinists and manual lathe operators install this insert in compatible KENDEX-style toolholders for turning, facing, and boring operations.
This insert is suited for steel and stainless steel as primary workpiece materials, with cast iron and special or super alloys as secondary applications. It is designed for moderate to high-toughness cutting conditions with a maximum depth of cut of 1.25 millimeters (0.049 inches). Typical installation scenarios include production turning on CNC lathes and machining centers in job shops, contract manufacturing facilities, and maintenance machine shops. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with both right-hand and left-hand toolholder setups where TPG-style seating is used.
Designed for use in KENDEX-series TPG-style clamping toolholders. ANSI insert code TPG433 and ISO insert code TPG220412 govern holder compatibility. The clamp-style holding method requires a toolholder seat matched to the TPG triangle geometry with a 11-degree relief angle and positive clearance (clearance code P, tolerance code G).
A qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician should install this insert. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Ensure the toolholder pocket and clamp are clean and free of chips before indexing to a fresh cutting edge. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque guidance and applicable shop safety procedures when handling carbide inserts, as edges are sharp.
