The KENNAMETAL 1183313 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TPG322 geometry, part of the KENDEX series. It carries a multilayer CVD coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN over a carbide substrate graded KC850, targeting moderate to high wear resistance combined with toughness. The insert features a triangular shape with a 60-degree included angle, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/32-inch corner radius, and a flat-top chip breaker with a positive rake and positive side clearance. With three usable cutting edges and a neutral hand orientation, it suits turning, facing, and boring operations across a range of workpiece materials. Licensed machinists and CNC turning center operators are the primary installers.
This insert is designed for general-purpose metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers in both production and job-shop environments. Primary workpiece materials include steel and stainless steel, with additional applicability to cast iron and special or super alloys. The KC850 grade delivers a balance of wear resistance and toughness appropriate for moderate interrupted and continuous cuts. The flat-top geometry keeps chip control straightforward across those material classes. Maximum depth of cut is 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm), making this insert well suited to finishing and light semi-finishing passes rather than heavy roughing.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for KENDEX-series toolholders accepting TPG322-style triangular carbide inserts. Confirm toolholder pocket geometry, clamp style, and clearance code P compliance before installation.
This insert is installed and changed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before any insert change. Seat the insert fully in the pocket and secure with the appropriate clamp or screw torqued to toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the cutting edge and corner radius condition at regular intervals; do not continue cutting with a chipped or worn edge, as doing so risks workpiece damage and toolholder wear.
