The KENNAMETAL 1183264 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert designed for precision material removal on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Conforming to ANSI insert code TPG431 and ISO code TPG220404, this triangular insert provides three usable cutting edges with a positive rake and positive side clearance geometry. The flat-top chip breaker and honed cutting edge style suit it for finishing and light-to-medium roughing operations. Grade K68 delivers high wear resistance with moderate toughness, making it well suited for non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloys including titanium. Insert length measures 22 millimeters (0.866 inches) with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch (0.0156-inch) corner radius.
This insert is intended for turning, facing, and boring operations across a range of workpiece materials classified under ISO material groups P, M, K, N, and S. Typical applications include finish turning of aluminum and non-ferrous metals where uncoated carbide outperforms coated grades by minimizing built-up edge. It also performs in cast iron and stainless steel applications requiring consistent surface finish. The KENDEX series insert is held via a clamp-style toolholder and is compatible with TPG-style pockets meeting ANSI and ISO dimensional standards. This insert is appropriate for production shops, job shops, and MRO environments where tool life consistency and predictable wear behavior are required.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for ANSI TPG431 and ISO TPG220404 clamp-style toolholders. Compatible with any toolholder pocket conforming to KENDEX series TPG insert specifications as defined by ANSI and ISO dimensional tolerances.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Verify the toolholder pocket and clamp are free of chips and debris before placing the insert to ensure full and flat seating. Do not exceed the recommended maximum depth of cut for the selected grade and workpiece material, and confirm insert orientation and clamp torque against the toolholder manufacturer specifications before resuming operation.
