The KENNAMETAL 1183258 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert in the KENDEX series, designed for precision material removal in turning, facing, and boring operations. It features a triangular (60-degree) insert shape with a positive rake angle and positive side clearance, providing free-cutting action and reduced cutting forces. The insert has a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, a 1/32 inch corner radius, and a flat-top chip breaker geometry. With an ANSI insert code of TPG322 and ISO code TPG160308, it conforms to recognized industry standards for interchangeability and toolholder compatibility. Grade K68 delivers high wear resistance combined with moderate toughness, making it well suited for demanding applications on non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloys.
This insert is intended for use in KENDEX-style toolholders on CNC lathes and manual turning centers in production and job-shop environments. Its multi-use designation covers turning, facing, and boring applications. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working with non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and superalloys including titanium will find the K68 grade appropriate for high wear-resistance to moderate wear-resistance and toughness requirements. The flat-top chip breaker and honed cutting edge contribute to consistent chip control and surface finish across the three available cutting edges.
Designed for use with KENDEX-series clamp-style toolholders accepting TPG322 or TPG160308 inserts. Compatible with applications involving non-ferrous metals, aluminum, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloys and titanium as identified by ISO material codes P, M, K, N, and S.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the insert — do not overtighten the clamp screw by hand estimation. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for chips or debris before seating a new edge to ensure proper contact and prevent premature edge failure.
