Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 1183206 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert in the KENDEX series, designed for precision metal removal in turning, facing, and boring operations. It features a triangular (60-degree) insert shape with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, a 1/32 inch corner radius, and a flat-top chip breaker geometry. The insert carries the ANSI designation TPG322 and ISO designation TPG160308. Grade K313 is an uncoated carbide formulation offering high wear resistance with moderate toughness. The positive rake and positive side clearance geometry reduce cutting forces and are well suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes. Installation is performed by qualified machinists and CNC operators.

This insert is appropriate for use in KENDEX-style turning toolholders that accept TPG-style clamp-held inserts. Primary workpiece materials include non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium, covering ISO material codes P, M, K, N, and S. Typical applications span light to moderate material removal in turning, facing, and boring on CNC lathes and manual engine lathes. The flat-top chip breaker suits continuous cuts with controlled chip formation. Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inch).

Key Features

  • ANSI grade TPG322, ISO grade TPG160308 triangular insert with 60-degree included angle and 3 usable cutting edges
  • K313 uncoated solid carbide grade - high wear resistance with moderate toughness for stainless, cast iron, and non-ferrous applications
  • Flat-top chip breaker with positive rake and positive side clearance for reduced cutting forces
  • 1/32 inch corner radius with honed cutting edge style for edge integrity on light finishing cuts
  • Maximum depth of cut: 1.25 mm (0.0492 inch)
  • Clamp-held mounting method with tolerance code G and clearance code P for consistent seating

Compatibility

Designed for use in KENDEX-series turning toolholders that accept TPG-style clamp-held inserts. Compatible across turning, facing, and boring applications on workpiece materials within ISO designations P, M, K, N, and S.

Installation Notes

This insert is installed and changed by machinists or CNC operators following standard indexable insert procedures. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torquing tool for the clamp screw as specified by the toolholder manufacturer - do not overtighten. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
