The KENNAMETAL 1183205 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert in the KENDEX series, designed for precision metal cutting on CNC and manual lathes. It carries the ANSI designation TPG321 and ISO code TPG160304, featuring a triangular shape with a 60-degree included angle and a positive rake geometry. The insert offers a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/64-inch corner radius, and a flat-top chip breaker configuration. Grade K313 is engineered for high wear-resistance to moderate wear-resistance and toughness across stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous materials. Licensed machinists and CNC operators select this insert for demanding finish and semi-finish turning applications.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, stainless steel, and cast iron. Its uncoated, bright finish and honed cutting edge make it particularly effective where coated grades may cause built-up edge on softer non-ferrous workpieces. The positive side clearance and positive rake angle reduce cutting forces, making it a practical choice for lighter-duty cuts and finishing passes. It is compatible with clamp-style toolholders that accept TPG-style inserts and is appropriate for both production environments and job-shop applications.
Designed for use in clamp-style toolholders accepting TPG-style triangular inserts per ANSI and ISO standards. Suitable for primary workpiece materials coded P, M, K, N, and S, covering carbon and alloy steels, stainless steels, cast irons, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC technicians using the appropriate clamp-style toolholder for TPG inserts. Always power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Use a torque wrench appropriate for the toolholder manufacturer's clamping screw specification, and inspect the pocket seating surface for chips or debris before seating the new insert. Verify insert orientation and confirm secure clamping before resuming cutting operations.
