The KENNAMETAL 1183203 is a solid carbide, uncoated triangular turning insert designed for precision metal removal on CNC and manual lathes. Carrying the ANSI designation TPG221 and ISO designation TPG110304, it belongs to the KENDEX series. The insert features a 60-degree included angle, a 1/4-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch corner radius. The K313 grade is an uncoated bright carbide formulated for high wear resistance across a range of workpiece materials including non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloys. The flat-top chip breaker geometry and positive rake angle promote clean chip flow and reduced cutting forces. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in compatible clamp-style toolholders.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations in both production and job-shop environments. Its positive side clearance and honed cutting edge make it well-matched for finishing and semi-finishing passes on aluminum, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, cast iron, and titanium-based superalloys. The three available cutting edges extend tool life between holder changes. Maximum recommended depth of cut is 0.049 inches (1.25 mm), positioning this insert for light-to-moderate material removal rather than heavy roughing. It is appropriate for both residential-shop and industrial-floor CNC turning centers.
Designed for use in clamp-style toolholders that accept TPG221 triangular inserts per ANSI and ISO standards. Suitable for multi-use applications including turning, facing, and boring. Confirm toolholder pocket geometry and clamping method before installation.
Installation is performed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque driver or clamp screw per the toolholder manufacturer specifications — do not overtighten the clamp, as this can chip the insert or damage the pocket seat. Inspect the toolholder pocket for debris or wear before seating a new insert.
