The KENNAMETAL 1182743 is a solid carbide turning insert with a TiN (titanium nitride) PVD coating, designed for external turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC and manual lathes. It carries the ANSI code SPG633 and ISO code SPG190412, fitting the KENDEX toolholding series. The KC730 grade delivers high wear resistance with moderate toughness, making it well suited for continuous and semi-interrupted cuts. Key dimensional specs include a 3/4 inch inscribed circle, 3/16 inch insert thickness, 3/64 inch corner radius, and a 90-degree square geometry with positive side clearance. The flat-top chip breaker geometry and honed cutting edge promote stable chip control across a range of cutting conditions.
This insert is intended for machining steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloys including titanium. The KC730 grade is rated for high to moderate wear resistance across P, M, and K workpiece material classifications, with secondary suitability for S-class superalloys. It is a neutral-hand insert, so it is compatible with right-hand or left-hand toolholders designed for the SPG insert style. Typical applications include production turning of shafts, flanges, bores, and faced surfaces on both horizontal and vertical turning centers in industrial and job-shop environments.
Designed for use in KENDEX-series toolholders accepting SPG633 (ANSI) or SPG190412 (ISO) inserts with a clamp-style insert holding method. Suitable for toolholders configured for positive-rake, square-style inserts with a tolerance code G and clearance code P.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and tighten the clamp to the toolholder manufacturer specifications using a calibrated torque key. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for wear or debris before installing a new edge, and verify runout and tool overhang before resuming cutting operations.
