The KENNAMETAL 1182187 is a carbide threading insert designed for external UN thread forms at 24 threads per inch (TPI). It carries the NTC3R24E designation within Kennametal's Top Notch series and is coated with Titanium Nitride (TiN) applied via a PVD process. The KC730 grade is a PVD-coated carbide suited for C2, C3, and C4 material groups. At 0.1949 inches thick and 0.1480 inches from tip to top, this insert seats precisely in compatible Top Notch toolholders. Machinists and CNC operators install this insert on lathes and turning centers for single-point threading operations on external workpiece diameters.
This insert is used in external threading applications on UN-standard thread forms at 24 TPI. It is a right-hand insert, making it appropriate for conventional right-hand threading passes on a lathe. The Top Notch series is common in production and job-shop turning environments handling steel, stainless, and cast iron workpieces within the C2 through C4 material grade classifications. The 60-degree included angle conforms to standard UN thread geometry. It is well suited for both light production runs and repeat threading operations where consistent thread form accuracy is required.
Designed for use in Top Notch series NTC-style threading toolholders that accept size 3 inserts. Specific holder compatibility should be confirmed against Kennametal Top Notch toolholder documentation prior to installation.
Threading inserts of this type are installed and exchanged by machinists or CNC tool-setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing any insert. Use the appropriate Torx or insert-retention screw driver as specified by the toolholder manufacturer, and do not overtighten the clamp screw. Inspect the insert seat and chip groove for debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and thread form accuracy.
