The KENNAMETAL 1182003 is a DNGA433T0820 KY3500 uncoated ceramic turning insert engineered for high-speed machining of cast iron workpieces. Made from silicon nitride, this insert delivers high wear-resistance to moderate wear-resistance and toughness in demanding turning applications. It features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape, a negative rake angle, a T-Land cutting edge style, and a flat-top chip breaker geometry. The inscribed circle measures 0.5 inches, the corner radius is 3/64 inches (0.0469 inches), and insert length is approximately 15.50 mm (0.611 inches). With four available cutting edges and neutral hand orientation, this insert maximizes tool life per unit. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling specialists install this insert using KENLOC-style toolholders.
This insert is designed for cast iron machining operations including turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring. The KY3500 silicon nitride grade is optimized for the K-material group (cast iron), providing stable performance across a range of cutting conditions. The flat-top chip breaker and T-Land edge prep are suited to consistent chip control at moderate-to-high cutting speeds. The maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches), making it appropriate for finishing and semi-finishing passes where tight tolerances and surface finish are priorities.
Designed for use in KENLOC-style toolholders that accept DNGA-style inserts with clamp and pin insert holding. Suitable for CNC lathes and turning centers running cast iron workpieces requiring ANSI DNGA433 or ISO DNGA150412 insert geometry.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing any cutting insert. Secure the insert using the appropriate KENLOC clamp and locating pin; do not use damaged clamping components. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before each insert change to ensure proper seating and prevent premature edge failure.
