The KENNAMETAL 1181596 is a solid carbide milling insert in the XDMT series, designed for indexable milling cutters used in metal-cutting operations. It carries the KC730 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied TiN coating, which improves wear resistance and extends tool life across a range of workpiece materials. The insert measures 0.5906 inches in length, 0.3752 inches in width, and 0.1252 inches in thickness. A corner radius of 0.0315 inches (0.80 mm) provides controlled edge geometry for consistent chip formation. This insert is installed and serviced by machinists and toolroom technicians working in production or job-shop milling environments.
This insert is suited for milling applications across material grades C2, C3, and C4, covering a broad range of cast irons and non-ferrous metals. Its right-hand cutting orientation and 88-degree included angle make it appropriate for face milling, shoulder milling, and general-purpose indexable milling operations in both light and moderate cutting conditions. The screw-type holding method provides secure clamping in compatible toolholders. This is a single-sided insert, meaning each insert yields one usable cutting edge before indexing or replacement.
Designed for use in XDMT-series indexable milling toolholders accepting XDMT150308R insert geometry with a screw-type clamping method. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and insert seat specifications before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Before replacing or indexing inserts, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all energy sources are locked out per applicable machine safety procedures. Use the correct torque-limiting screwdriver or insert screw driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer when tightening the clamping screw — do not over-tighten, as this can fracture the insert or damage the pocket seat. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating the new insert.
