The KENNAMETAL 1163524 is a solid carbide round profiling and turning insert in the K-LOCK series, designed for high-performance metal removal on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. Manufactured to RCMK46 and RCMK120800 standards, this insert features a PVD-applied TiN coating and a positive rake geometry with a 7-degree rake angle and 5-degree relief angle. It delivers four usable cutting edges per insert, making it a practical choice for production turning environments where insert economy matters. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in job shops or production facilities will find this insert suited for profiling passes and continuous turning operations.
This insert is applied in external profiling and turning operations where a full 360-degree round shape and a 0.25-inch corner radius allow smooth contour blending and reduced tool pressure. It is well suited for machining steel (P10, P20), stainless steel (M10, M20), and superalloys or titanium (S10, S20) across a range of cutting conditions. The KC730 grade, combined with PVD TiN coating, supports both roughing and semi-finishing strategies on these workpiece families. Typical applications include CNC lathes and turning centers where a K-LOCK clamp or pin holding method is used.

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician with the machine in a locked-out, zero-energy state before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully in the pocket and secure using the appropriate K-LOCK clamp or pin per the toolholder manufacturer's procedure. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating to ensure proper contact and runout. Index or replace the insert at the first sign of chipping, built-up edge, or dimensional drift in the workpiece.
