Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 1163385 is a solid carbide profiling and turning insert in the Top Notch series, designed for precision material removal on steel and stainless steel workpieces. It carries the NPL132 insert style designation and the KC850 manufacturer grade with a CVD coating process. The insert features a parallelogram shape with a negative rake angle of 10 degrees, a 55-degree included angle, and a 0-degree relief angle. Four cutting edges extend usable tool life between index cycles. With an inscribed circle of 0.373 inches and a maximum depth of cut of 0.166 inches, this insert is suited for controlled profiling passes in production turning operations. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators are the primary installers.

This insert is intended for profiling and turning applications on steel and stainless steel, corresponding to ISO material codes P and M (material grades P30, P40, M30, and M40). The left-hand cutting orientation makes it appropriate for specific toolholder configurations where right-to-left tool travel is required. It is held in place by a screw-type clamping method. The Top Notch series designation and ISO code KNGX150408L20 indicate compatibility with toolholders designed around that standard. It is sold individually but subject to a minimum order quantity of 5 units.

Key Features

  • Solid carbide construction with KC850 manufacturer grade and CVD coating process
  • Parallelogram shape with 55-degree included angle and negative rake for stable cutting geometry
  • Four cutting edges per insert for extended tool life between replacements
  • Left-hand insert hand for use in matching left-hand toolholder configurations
  • Screw-type insert holding method for positive clamping and repeatable indexing
  • Corner radius of 0.0312 inches (0.79 mm) for controlled surface finish on profiling passes

Compatibility

Compatible with Top Notch series toolholders designed for the NPL132F insert style. ISO code KNGX150408L20 and standards NPL132F apply. Verify toolholder hand orientation and pocket geometry before installation.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque driver for the screw-clamping system to avoid seat damage or insert fracture — follow the toolholder manufacturer torque specification printed in their documentation. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert.
