Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 1163225 is a solid carbide profiling and turning insert in the VPGR3305 style, manufactured to the KC730 grade with a PVD TiN coating. It features a parallelogram shape with a 35-degree included angle, a positive rake of 10 degrees, and an 8-degree relief angle. The insert carries a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, a 0.1875 inch thickness, and a corner radius of 0.0080 inches. With two cutting edges and a neutral hand orientation, it is suited for finish and semi-finish profiling passes on CNC lathes and turning centers. Installation and setup are handled by licensed machinists and CNC operators using a clamp-style insert holding method.

This insert is designed for profiling and turning operations on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpiece materials, corresponding to ISO material groups P, M, and S. It fits into Top Notch series toolholders accepting VPGR-style inserts. The KC730 grade with PVD TiN coating is optimized for moderate to high cutting speeds in P10 through P20 and M10 through M20 application ranges, making it a practical choice for general turning, contour turning, and finish profiling work on ferrous and high-temperature alloy components.

Key Features

  • Solid carbide KC730 grade with PVD TiN coating for wear resistance on steel and stainless steel
  • VPGR3305 parallelogram insert style with 35-degree included angle for profiling geometry
  • Positive 10-degree rake angle and 8-degree relief angle reduce cutting forces
  • 0.0080 inch corner radius suited for fine detail and contour work
  • Neutral hand orientation provides flexibility in toolholder setup
  • Two cutting edges per insert extend service life between changes

Compatibility

Compatible with Top Notch series clamp-style toolholders designed for VPGR3305 inserts. ISO equivalent designation is VCGR160402. Intended for use on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces in ISO P, M, and S material groups.

Installation Notes

Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine in a full stop and lockout-tagout procedures applied. Use the correct torque on the clamping screw per the toolholder manufacturer specification to ensure secure seating. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specification for the toolholder and insert combination in use.
