The KENNAMETAL 1163209 is a solid carbide profiling insert in the Top Notch series, designed for external profiling and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the NPR508 insert style designation and is manufactured to ISO code KCGX110302R15. The insert features a KC730 PVD-applied TiN coating, a parallelogram shape with a 55-degree included angle, and a negative rake geometry with a 10-degree rake angle. With four usable cutting edges and a screw-type holding method, this insert is suited for production turning where edge economy and consistent surface finish matter. Licensed HVAC and metalworking professionals will recognize this as a toolroom-grade cutting insert for precision lathe work.
This insert is engineered for profiling and turning applications on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, corresponding to ISO material groups P, M, and S. The KC730 grade covers P10, P20, M10, M20, S10, and S20 material classifications, making it a versatile choice across general steel turning, interrupted cuts on stainless, and demanding superalloy or titanium work. It is installed in compatible Top Notch series screw-lock toolholders and is used in right-hand cutting orientations. Typical users include CNC machinists, tool-and-die professionals, and production turning shops requiring reliable insert performance across a range of ferrous and exotic alloys.
Designed for use in Top Notch series screw-lock toolholders accepting NPR508 inserts. Compatible with ISO code KCGX110302R15 toolholder pockets. Suitable for primary workpiece materials classified as Steel (P), Stainless Steel (M), and Superalloys and Titanium (S).
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert firmly in the toolholder pocket and tighten the clamp screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque using a calibrated torque wrench. Inspect the cutting edge and pocket seating surface for chips or debris before securing the insert.
