The KENNAMETAL 1163040 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert in the TP62 geometry and K68 grade. It features a triangular (T) insert shape with a 60-degree included angle, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/32-inch corner radius. The screw-on holding method and positive rake with positive side clearance geometry support stable, predictable cutting performance. With a K68 uncoated carbide grade, this insert delivers high wear resistance suited to demanding turning applications on stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and other non-ferrous materials. It is installed by CNC machinists and turning center operators in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for finish and semi-finish turning operations where wear resistance and edge sharpness are the primary requirements. The K68 grade is rated for high wear-resistance to moderate wear-resistance and toughness across workpiece material groups M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), N (aluminum and non-ferrous), and S (high-temperature alloys). The screw-on series mount is compatible with standard TP-style toolholders. Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches), making this insert appropriate for light to moderate material removal passes.
Designed for use in screw-on TP-style turning toolholders. ANSI insert code TP62; ISO insert code TP160308. Industry standard number CCGT432HP. ISO code C8FIX150605RRN. Compatible with workpiece material groups P, M, K, N, and S per ISO classification.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct screw-on torque driver recommended by the toolholder manufacturer — do not over-torque the clamping screw, as this can fracture the carbide insert. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces for debris or wear before fitting a new insert.
