The KENNAMETAL 1163039 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert in the TP61 geometry, designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured from K68 grade uncoated carbide, this insert offers high wear resistance with moderate toughness, making it well-suited for finishing and semi-finishing operations on stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and other non-ferrous materials. The triangular insert shape provides three usable cutting edges, and the screw-on holding method ensures secure, repeatable positioning in compatible toolholders. Corner radius measures 0.0156 inches (1/64 inch), and the inscribed circle diameter is 0.375 inches (3/8 inch).
This insert is applied in turning operations across a range of workpiece materials coded P, M, K, N, and S per ISO classification. It is primarily suited for light to moderate depth-of-cut passes, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm). Typical install scenarios include CNC lathe toolholder setups in job shop, production machining, and maintenance machining environments. Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the screw-on clamp to the manufacturer-specified holding torque for the toolholder in use. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure accurate positioning and prevent premature edge failure.
