The KENNAMETAL 1162892 is a solid carbide turning insert with a TPGM21.52 geometry and KC730 grade, designed for high-productivity metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) titanium nitride (TiN) coating that delivers high wear resistance across a range of workpiece materials. With a 60-degree triangular shape, positive rake angle of 5 degrees, and a honed cutting edge, the 1162892 is engineered for finish to medium machining operations. Three cutting edges per insert extend tool life. The inscribed circle measures 0.25 inches, insert length is 0.4331 inches (11 millimeters), and the corner radius is 0.0313 inches (1/32 inch). Mounting is by screw-on method, consistent with standard toolholders using the TPGM insert style.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations in both small and large shop environments. Its KC730 grade targets steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), superalloys, and titanium workpiece materials, covering a broad range of production turning applications. The medium chip breaker profile handles moderate feed rates and depths of cut up to 0.0492 inches (1.25 millimeters). The neutral hand orientation allows use in standard TPGM-compatible screw-on toolholders. Designed for use in screw-on TPGM-style turning toolholders conforming to ANSI insert code TPGM2152 and ISO insert code TPGM110208. Compatible with turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium workpieces.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the manufacturer-specified torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the recommended seat; do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can fracture under excess clamping force. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before mounting a new insert.
