The KENNAMETAL 1162430 is a TCMT32.51LF solid carbide turning insert with KC850 grade and a multilayer CVD coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN. It is designed for single-point turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The triangular insert geometry features a 60-degree included angle, a positive rake angle of 5 degrees, a 7-degree relief angle, and a honed cutting edge style. With three usable cutting edges and a screw-on holding method, this insert supports efficient tool change cycles in production environments. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this type of insert in screw-on style toolholders as part of indexable tooling systems.
This insert is suited for finishing and light machining applications on steel and stainless steel workpieces, and is also rated for use on cast iron and special or super alloys. The KC850 grade provides moderate wear resistance combined with toughness, making it appropriate for interrupted cuts and variable stock conditions. The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for light chip loads and close-tolerance finishing passes. It carries both ANSI designation TCMT3251 and ISO designation TCMT16T304, making it straightforward to cross-reference against existing toolholder documentation.
Designed for use in screw-on style TCMT toolholders conforming to ANSI size code 3251 and ISO size code 16T304. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations across steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and special or super alloy workpieces.
This insert is installed and indexed by CNC machinists or tool-crib technicians using the appropriate TCMT screw-on toolholder and insert clamping screw. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secure before indexing or replacing the insert. Use the manufacturer-specified torx or hex key for the clamping screw to avoid stripping the insert seat. Inspect the insert pocket and locating surfaces for chips or debris before seating a new cutting edge.
