The KENNAMETAL 1162395 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TPMT style, designed for precision metal removal on CNC and manual lathes. Carrying the KC850 manufacturer grade with a multilayer CVD coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN, this insert delivers moderate wear resistance combined with high toughness across a broad range of workpiece materials. The 60-degree triangular shape provides three cutting edges per insert, improving cost-per-edge efficiency. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/32-inch corner radius, and a neutral hand orientation, it fits standard screw-on toolholders and suits finishing to light machining operations.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron, as well as special and super alloys. It performs best in finishing and light machining passes where controlled chip evacuation and surface quality are priorities. The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for these lighter-duty cuts. The positive rake angle and positive side clearance reduce cutting forces, making this insert appropriate for setups where vibration or workpiece deflection is a concern. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in job shop and production environments are the primary users.
Designed for use in screw-on TPMT-style toolholders. Conforms to ANSI insert code TPMT3252 and ISO insert code TPMT16T308, making it a direct fit for any toolholder engineered to those standards. Multi-use application covers turning, facing, and boring operations.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine fully stopped and all axes locked before indexing or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque; do not over-tighten, as this can fracture the carbide. Inspect the toolholder pocket and shim for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Verify insert orientation for neutral hand alignment before returning the machine to service.
