The KENNAMETAL 1162374 is a solid carbide turning insert designated DCMT2151LF in the KC850 grade, designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC and manual lathes. It features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees and a 7-degree relief angle, giving it low cutting forces suited to finishing and light machining passes. The multilayer CVD coating stack of TiC, TiCN, and TiN delivers moderate wear resistance combined with toughness across a range of workpiece materials. The insert measures 7.75 mm (0.6104 inches) in length with a 0.25-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch corner radius. It uses a screw-on holding method and provides 2 cutting edges per insert.
This insert is suited for finishing and light machining of steel, stainless steel, and cast iron, as well as special and super alloys. Typical applications include turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring on production and job-shop equipment. The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for fine surface finishes and light depths of cut, with a maximum depth of cut of 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches). It carries ANSI insert code DCMT2151 and ISO insert code DCMT070204, making it straightforward to cross-reference for toolholder selection.

Installation is performed by machining technicians or toolroom personnel. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination will affect runout and surface finish.
