The KENNAMETAL 1162366 is a CPMT-style solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Identified by grade designation KC850, this insert features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN for extended tool life and thermal resistance. The 80-degree diamond shape with a neutral hand orientation provides versatile cutting geometry suited to longitudinal turning and facing operations. Key dimensions include a 7/32-inch (0.2188 inches) inscribed circle, a 1/64-inch (0.0156 inches) corner radius, and an overall length of 0.2224 inches (5.65 mm). Screw-on holding method ensures secure insert retention during operation.
This insert is intended for machining steel and stainless steel as the primary workpiece materials, covering ISO material codes P and M. Secondary applications include ISO code K and M workpiece materials. The LF chipbreaker geometry and positive rake angle of 5 degrees support efficient chip formation and reduced cutting forces, making this insert well suited for finishing to semi-finishing passes. Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches). It conforms to ANSI and ISO insert standards and is appropriate for shops running production turning on ferrous and corrosion-resistant alloy components.
Designed as a screw-on CPMT-style replacement insert compatible with toolholders accepting CPMT18151 geometry per ANSI and ISO standards. Primary workpiece material compatibility covers steel (ISO P) and stainless steel (ISO M).
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel. Before changing inserts, power down the spindle and engage the machine lockout per shop safety procedures. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque; do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under excessive clamping force. Verify insert seating and edge condition before resuming cuts, and handle carbide inserts with care to avoid chipping cutting edges.
