The KENNAMETAL 1162356 is a solid carbide turning insert designated CCMT21505LF in the KC850 grade, designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC and manual lathes. It features a multilayer CVD coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN that delivers moderate wear resistance and toughness across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert carries an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a positive rake angle of 5 degrees, a 7-degree relief angle, and a honed cutting edge style. The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and light machining passes where tight tolerances and fine surface finishes are the priority. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert as part of a screw-on toolholder system.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron, as well as select special and super alloys. It fits within ANSI size code 21505 and ISO size code 060202, making it a standard insert size compatible with matching screw-on toolholders dimensioned for a 0.25-inch inscribed circle. Its finishing-oriented LF chip breaker makes it a practical choice for final-pass turning where stock removal is light and dimensional accuracy is critical. The insert is double-sided with 2 cutting edges per insert.
Designed for use in screw-on style toolholders dimensioned for ANSI insert code CCMT21505 and ISO insert code CCMT060202 with a 0.25-inch inscribed circle. Primary workpiece materials are steel (P) and stainless steel (M); secondary fitment includes cast iron (K) and special or super alloys (S). Material grades C5 and C6 apply. Multi-use application covers turning, facing, and boring.
This insert is installed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician using the appropriate torx or hex key for the screw-on seat; always confirm the toolholder matches the CCMT insert style and seat geometry before installation. Power down the machine and lock out the spindle before changing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specified for the insert geometry and do not use a damaged or chipped insert edge.
