The KENNAMETAL 1162294 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It conforms to ANSI insert code RCGW215 and ISO insert code RCGW060200, featuring a round (R) insert shape with a full radius cutting edge. The insert carries a K68 manufacturer grade, which delivers high to moderate wear resistance and toughness across stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and other non-ferrous materials. With a 0.25-inch inscribed circle, a 0.0938-inch thickness, and a positive rake and clearance geometry, this insert is suited for finishing and light roughing applications where tight tolerances are required.
This insert is intended for use in screw-on style turning toolholders compatible with the RCGW insert style. It is applicable in residential shop, production machining, and industrial turning environments where machinists and CNC operators are working with stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), aluminum, and non-ferrous (N) workpiece materials. The W chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation during turning operations. Maximum depth of cut is 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm), making it best suited for finishing passes and contour turning rather than heavy stock removal.
Designed for use in screw-on style RCGW turning toolholders accepting a 0.25-inch inscribed circle round insert. Compatible with primary workpiece material codes P, M, K, N, and S per the supplier-provided grade characteristics.
This insert is installed by a machinist or CNC operator using the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the screw-on fastener per the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque procedure. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surface for debris or wear before seating the new insert. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specification for this insert geometry.
