The KENNAMETAL 1162225 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert with ANSI designation VBGT221LF and ISO designation VBGT110304. Manufactured in the K313 grade, it features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape, a 0.25-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch (0.0156-inch) corner radius. The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and light machining operations. With a positive rake angle of 5 degrees and a honed cutting edge, this insert delivers clean, controlled cuts in precision turning applications. It is held by screw-on mounting method and offers 2 usable cutting edges per insert.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations on non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium as the primary workpiece materials. The K313 grade also provides high to moderate wear resistance and toughness across stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), and aluminum and non-ferrous (N) material groups. It is appropriate for production and job-shop environments where finishing passes and light material removal rates are required. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working on precision components will find this insert a reliable fit for light-duty lathe and boring bar setups.
Designed for use in screw-on style toolholders accepting VBGT-series inserts with a 0.25-inch inscribed circle. Meets ANSI and ISO dimensional standards for direct replacement or cross-referencing to equivalent VBGT221 insert seats.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert, and confirm the insert is fully seated before resuming cuts. Follow all applicable shop safety procedures when handling carbide inserts, as edges are sharp and brittle.
