The KENNAMETAL 1162204 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert in the DCGT style, designed for precision finishing operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the ANSI designation DCGT21505 and the ISO designation DCGT070202. The insert features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a positive rake angle of 15 degrees, a 7-degree relief angle, and a honed cutting edge. The HP chip breaker geometry is engineered for finishing cuts, and the K313 grade delivers high wear resistance across a range of workpiece materials. The insert holds to the G tolerance code for consistent dimensional accuracy in the cut. Each insert provides 2 cutting edges and is held with a screw-on mounting method.
This insert is suited for finishing operations including turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring. Primary workpiece materials include non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium, with grade characteristics that also support stainless steel and cast iron applications at high to moderate wear resistance and toughness levels. The positive side clearance and positive rake geometry make this insert well adapted to light, high-precision cuts where surface finish and dimensional control are critical. Designed as a screw-on OEM-style replacement or direct-use finishing insert for DCGT-style turning toolholders conforming to ANSI insert code DCGT21505 and ISO insert code DCGT070202. Compatible toolholders must accept a 0.25-inch inscribed circle, 3/32-inch thick, 55-degree diamond insert with a 0.1102-inch hole diameter.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC operators. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured before indexing or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to engage the screw-on clamp without overtightening, which can crack the carbide body. Verify insert seating and pocket cleanliness before resuming cutting operations.
