The KENNAMETAL 1162185 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert in the CCGT431HP K313 grade, designed for precision finishing operations on CNC and manual lathes. It carries an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle of 15 degrees and a 7-degree relief angle, giving it a sharp, free-cutting geometry suited to light chip loads. The inscribed circle measures 0.5 inches, insert length is 0.5077 inches, and thickness is 0.1875 inches. The HP chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing passes at tight tolerances. The K313 grade offers high wear resistance and is suited to stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and other non-ferrous materials.
This insert is intended for turning, facing, and boring applications across a range of workpiece materials including non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. It is commonly used in production and job-shop environments where fine surface finishes and close dimensional tolerances are required. Installation is performed by trained machinists or CNC setup technicians. Before changing inserts, ensure the machine is powered down, the spindle is fully stopped, and all axes are locked. Use the manufacturer-specified torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder specification without over-torquing.
